‘My Words’ – Museum of Colour and Manchester Poetry Library
The Manchester Histories Salons are returning – and are now in person and online!
We are thrilled to welcome Heather Marks, Exhibition Researcher at Museum of Colour, Semenua Sesher / Melanie Abrahams of Renaissance One, and Roma Havers of Manchester Poetry Library in conversation about their recent collaboration ‘My Words’, a ground-breaking exhibition that celebrates 250 years of contribution to British society by poets of colour.
Co-curated by Museum of Colour founder Samenua Sesher OBE, Melanie Abrahams of Renaissance One and Joy Francis from Words of Colour, the exhibition – thought to be the first of its kind – features over 30 poets, from influential 18th century writers to leading contemporary poets, including the likes of SuAndi, John Agard, Nikita Gill and Benjamin Zephaniah.

Manchester Poetry Library at Manchester Metropolitan University is the first public poetry library in the Northwest of England. Launched in September 2021, the library is free and open to all, and is developing an extensive collection of contemporary poetry from books to recordings and in multiple languages and poetry for children.
