The Peterloo - Day school will look at the events in St. Peter's Field, that took place in Manchester on 16th August 1819, from both a historical and literary perspective.

Join Alan Sennett, Creina Mansfield and Barry Wood – With readings by Pam Buckenham, for what will be an insightful and interesting day!

Programme includes:

Morning Session 10:15 to 12:45

  • Illustrated lecture about Peterloo
  • A Presentation of Carolyn O’Brien’s novel The Song of Peterloo, published by Legend Press.

Lunch Break

Afternoon Session 1.30-4pm

  • Selected readings from “The Masque of Anarchy” with a short lecture and discussion on the politics of Shelley’s poem.
  • General Summing-up, Peterloo: history, literature and myth.
