Catherine Fletcher introduces her new book, The Roads to Rome: A History. Based on original research and brimming with life and drama, this is the first book to explore two thousand years of history through one of the greatest imperial networks ever built.  

The story spans more than two thousand years, from the construction of the earliest Roman roads via stories of Byzantine noblewomen, medieval pilgrims, Renaissance antiquarians, Grand Tourists, Romantics… the list goes on, bringing us right up to the present day through histories of Fascism and the lighter side of post-war tourism.
