Celebrate the launch of the Queer Up North digital archive with a special evening at HOME. Enjoy a one-off screening of the iconic Australian road movie The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (15), first previewed in Manchester at Queer Up North in 1994, followed by the premiere of It’s Queer Up North: Saving the Show – a new documentary short by filmmaker Brett Chapman exploring the history of the festival and the creation of the archive. The evening concludes with a celebration in the HOME bar, featuring music from DJ Kath McDermott.
About the Films
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (15)
First previewed in Manchester at Queer Up North in 1994, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is the much-loved Australian road movie musical written and directed by Stephan Elliott. Following two drag queens and a transgender woman as they travel across the Australian Outback aboard a tour bus named Priscilla, the film became an international hit on its release and won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
It’s Queer Up North: Saving the Show
Directed by Brett Chapman, this new documentary short explores the story of Queer Up North and the making of the digital archive, celebrating the people, performances and legacy of one of the UK’s most influential LGBTQ+ arts festivals.
After the Screening
Join us in the HOME ground floor bar for a celebratory party with DJ Kath McDermott, resident DJ at the legendary Flesh nights at Manchester’s Haçienda during the 1990s.

Visitors can also explore To See and Be Seen, artist Conor Collins’ first solo exhibition, inspired by the Queer Up North archive and on display in HOME’s Granada Foundation Galleries until Saturday 31 October 2026.
