Manchester Histories presents this Saturday special curated by Annex Agency and hosted by writer, curator and journalist Jennifer Lucy Allan.

Representing an international roster of artists within the electronic music spectrum, Annex Agency is one of the most dynamic artist booking agencies in Manchester. The day will include panel discussions, screenings and music exploring the often hidden stories of Manchester’s electronic music history. There will be time for networking and questions at the end of each panel, with sounds by Project 13’s resident DJ, Acre.

12PM – 12:30PM ARRIVAL. LIGHT REFRESHMENTS AND NETWORKING.

PANEL DISCUSSION 1:

NOT THE FACTORY: MANCHESTER’S OTHER ELECTRONIC MUSIC HISTORIES 12:30PM – 1:30PM

Stepping outside Manchester’s oft-repeated and hagiographic mainstream electronic music history to look at the fringes of the underground, that were nevertheless crucial in shaping the city’s identity and the electronic sounds it produced. We’ll speak to some of the scenes key players and ask what stories have not yet been recorded? What else should be remembered? And, what histories are being made right now?

Panel: Conor Thomas [Boomkat, The Death Of Rave, Faktion, NTS] | AFRODEUTSCHE [Skam, NTS] | Balraj Samrai [Swing Ting, NTS]

PANEL DISCUSSION 2:

LOCAL VS GLOBAL – OPERATING LOCAL PROJECTS IN INTERNATIONAL SCENES 3PM – 4PM

An open panel discussion on ways of leveraging the local to harness a wider audience without ‘selling out’. What are the challenges and compromises? Can club nights expand beyond the city limits without losing their identity? Can labels stay xed to a place and still make sense? How can artists, DJs and producers access
wider audiences?

Panel: Kyle Marriott [Neuron Pro Audio] | Chloe Pensavalle [Annex Agency] | Dan Valentine [Rainer Veil, Modul, Brighter Sound]
